Remittance Calculator (Send Money to Nepal)

Estimate how many Nepali rupees your family will receive from the Gulf, Malaysia, Korea, USA, UK and more — with a live mid-market rate and the real cost of margin + fee.

Loading live rates…

How to use it

Choose the country you’re sending from and the amount. Then enter your provider’s exchange margin (how much worse than the mid-market rate) and any transfer fee — both are on your provider’s quote. You’ll see the rupees received and exactly what the margin + fee cost you.

How remittance to Nepal works

Millions of Nepalis in foreign employment send money home through NRB-licensed remittance companies — a secure, legal, and trackable channel. You hand over foreign currency abroad; your family receives Nepali rupees, usually within minutes to a day.

Ways your family can receive it

  • Bank deposit — straight into a Nepali bank account.
  • Cash pickup — collected from a remittance agent or bank branch with an ID and code.
  • Digital wallet — instant load into eSewa or Khalti (Khalti merged with IME Pay in July 2025).

Licensed providers (NRB-regulated)

Nepal-based: IME, Prabhu Money Transfer, City Expressand others. International operators serving Nepal: Western Union, MoneyGram, Wise, Remitly, WorldRemit and ACE. IME and Prabhu often have the lowest fees. Always use a licensed company— informal “hundi” transfers are illegal, unprotected and risky.

Tips to get more rupees home

  • Compare the rate, not just the fee — a “zero fee” offer can hide a big margin.
  • Check the effective rate (what you actually get per unit) across two or three providers.
  • Wallet payouts (eSewa/Khalti) are often instant and low-cost.
  • Larger transfers usually get a better rate than several small ones.

Sources & disclaimer

Live rate is an indicative mid-market figure (exchangerate-api.com); margin and fee are your inputs. The actual amount is set by your provider at transfer time. Provider/payout details as of mid-2026 — verify the current list and rates with NRB and the provider.

Frequently asked questions

How much money will my family receive in Nepal?

Pick the country you're sending from, enter the amount, and set the provider's exchange margin and fee. The tool shows the estimated Nepali rupees received, the effective rate, and how much you lose to margin + fee versus the mid-market rate.

What is the 'exchange margin'?

Remittance companies rarely give the true mid-market rate — they keep a small markup, usually around 0.5% to 2.5%. That markup is the margin. It often costs more than the visible fee, so always compare the rate, not just the fee.

Which are the licensed remittance companies for Nepal?

NRB-licensed channels include IME, Prabhu Money Transfer, City Express and others, plus international operators like Western Union, MoneyGram, Wise, Remitly, WorldRemit and ACE. Always use a licensed company — informal 'hundi' transfers are illegal and risky.

Can money be sent straight to eSewa or Khalti?

Yes. Many providers now pay out instantly into eSewa or Khalti wallets, as well as bank deposit and cash pickup. (Khalti and IME Pay merged in July 2025 to form Khalti by IME.)

Is this an official rate?

No — it uses a live indicative mid-market rate and your assumptions for margin and fee. The real amount is set by your remittance provider at the time of transfer; always confirm with them.
