How it works
Click the typing box and start typing the words you see. The 60-second timer begins on your first keystroke. Correct characters turn dark, mistakes turn red. At the end you’ll see your words per minute, accuracy and raw speed.
Understanding your score
- WPM — your net words per minute (correct characters ÷ 5 per minute).
- Accuracy — percentage of characters typed correctly.
- Raw WPM — speed counting everything you typed, mistakes included.

|---|---|
| Below 30 WPM | Beginner |
| 40 WPM | Average |

Frequently asked questions
How does the 1-minute typing test work?
Click the box and start typing the words shown. A 60-second timer starts on your first keystroke. When time is up you get your WPM, accuracy, raw WPM and correct word count. Only lowercase letters and spaces are used — no punctuation or capitals to slow you down.
How is WPM calculated?
Using the standard formula: WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. The typing industry counts a 'word' as 5 characters. Raw (gross) WPM counts everything you typed; WPM (net) counts only the characters you typed correctly.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average, 60–70 WPM is good, and 90+ WPM is fast. Accuracy matters as much as speed — aim for 95%+ before pushing for raw speed.
How can I type faster?
Use all ten fingers, keep your eyes on the words (not the keyboard), sit with good posture, and practise regularly. Build accuracy first, then speed follows.
