1. Before you start
eSewa is a regulated digital wallet used in Nepal for utility bills, mobile top-up, QR/merchant payments, tickets, bank transfer and wallet transfer. The process is easy, but the account is tied to your identity, mobile number and KYC documents, so set it up carefully from day one.
Your preparation
Loading your checklist…
Only checklist ticks are saved on this device. Tools Pasal never asks for or stores your eSewa ID, mobile number, OTP, MPIN, password, bank account or KYC document.
2. Click the section you need
These are the practical form and app areas most users ask about. Use this page to understand what to prepare, then enter private details only inside the official eSewa app or website.
Official eSewa FAQ reviewed on 23 June 2026 says registration can be done through the eSewa mobile app or website.
Use a number you own and can keep long-term. It receives registration, OTP and recovery messages.
Do not create a wallet on a friend, shop or temporary SIM number.Use an email you can access. For web registration, eSewa says an email confirmation link is sent.
Enter details that match your citizenship, licence, passport or voter ID. KYC can be delayed if names do not match.
Use a strong password and MPIN. Do not reuse your Facebook, Gmail or bank password.
3. Verified vs unverified eSewa account
eSewa’s FAQ describes two account states: unverified and verified. Unverified means detailed KYC information or verification documents are missing. Verified means the required KYC details and documents are submitted and accepted.
Restricted wallet
Current official limit page says unverified users cannot perform wallet-to-wallet transfer or wallet-to-bank withdrawal.
Fuller wallet use
Verified users can use P2P transfer, bank withdrawal and account-link transactions within published limits.
4. Current eSewa limits to know
The official transaction-limit page says its listed limits were last updated on Jestha 01, 2081. These are the important numbers users usually need first:
| Limit type | Officially listed amount |
|---|---|
| Maximum wallet balance at end of day | Rs. 50,000 |
| P2P wallet transfer — verified only | Rs. 25,000/txn · Rs. 50,000/day · Rs. 5,00,000/month |
| Cash-in from eSewa Cash In agents | Rs. 10,000/txn · Rs. 25,000/day · Rs. 1,00,000/month |
| Wallet to bank withdrawal — verified only | Rs. 50,000/txn · Rs. 2,00,000/day · Rs. 10,00,000/month |
| Account link transaction | Rs. 50,000/txn · Rs. 1 lakh/day or 10 times · Rs. 10 lakh/month or 100 times |
5. Selected eSewa charges
The eSewa tariff page says tariffs were last updated on Ashoj 2, 2082. Most normal payments are free, but some services have charges. These are the charges most users ask about:
| Service | Charge shown by eSewa | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | Free | Official FAQ says eSewa registration is without charges. |
| Wallet-to-wallet transfer | Below Rs. 100 free; above Rs. 100 free up to 3/day and 30/month, then Rs. 10/txn | From eSewa tariff page; check if campaign or account type changes this. |
| Bank transfer / withdrawal | Rs. 10 for Rs. 100–200,000 | Tariff page also says own saved bank account can allow up to Rs. 1,00,000/txn; other accounts remain lower. |
| Government payments | Rs. 5 up to Rs. 5,000; Rs. 8 for Rs. 5,001–10,000; Rs. 10 for Rs. 10,001+ | Listed exclusive of VAT on the tariff page. |
| Card load | 1.75% processing fee | Tariff page lists Rs. 10,000/txn, Rs. 25,000/day and Rs. 50,000/month for card load. |
Some tariff entries are exclusive of VAT and some are inclusive. Always read the confirmation screen before pressing pay.
6. If load, payment or withdrawal fails
Do not panic and do not retry blindly. First collect evidence:
- eSewa transaction ID or payment reference;
- bank debit SMS or statement screenshot if money left the bank;
- receiver eSewa ID/mobile number used;
- date, time and amount; and
- merchant order number if it was a bill or shopping payment.
eSewa FAQ says a bank-to-eSewa load may fail to appear because of a communication-link issue or because a wrong eSewa ID was provided. Contact official eSewa support with the evidence instead of posting private details publicly.
7. Lost phone, SIM or account access
If your phone/SIM is lost, treat it like a wallet emergency. Your SIM may receive OTPs for eSewa, banks, email and social accounts.
- Block or replace the SIM through NTC/Ncell as quickly as possible.
- From a safe device, change eSewa password/MPIN if you can log in.
- Remove unknown devices/credentials from profile if visible.
- Contact official eSewa support if you cannot access the account.
- Also secure your bank apps and email linked to the same number.
For SIM-specific steps, use our NTC/Ncell SIM and eSIM Nepal guide.
8. Common eSewa mistakes to avoid
- Opening an eSewa account on someone else's SIM or email.
- Sending OTP, MPIN, password or KYC documents to a Facebook page or form-filling shop.
- Loading money to a wrong eSewa ID or mobile number without checking the receiver name.
- Trying wallet-to-wallet transfer or bank withdrawal before completing KYC.
- Ignoring failed-load evidence such as bank debit SMS, eSewa transaction ID and screenshot.
- Keeping large wallet balance without checking current limits and tariff rules.
- Using eSewa to transfer money for strangers, unknown online sellers or illegal schemes.
9. Privacy and scam safety
eSewa’s own security page says users should visit eSewa by typing https://esewa.com.np, avoid phishing, keep a strong password and never reveal mobile PIN/MPIN to others. That is the rule we follow here too: private wallet details belong only inside the official eSewa app or site.
