What this helper checks
It accepts English or Nepali digits, removes spaces and hyphens, and checks for a 9-digit PAN structure. It does not query, copy or store IRD taxpayer records.
PAN and VAT in Nepal
PAN identifies a taxpayer. VAT registration is an additional tax status for applicable businesses, not a separate number pattern. Therefore a bill showing nine digits is not automatically a valid VAT invoice—the seller and registration details must match IRD.
VAT invoice checklist
- Seller's registered name, address and PAN/VAT number
- Sequential invoice number and invoice date
- Buyer details where required for business transactions
- Description, quantity, rate and taxable amount
- 13% VAT shown separately and the final total
Sources and disclaimer
Service checked 21 June 2026 against the official IRD PAN Search, IRD Taxpayer Portal and IRD's VAT legislation. Only IRD can confirm registration status; format validation is not legal verification.
Frequently asked questions
How many digits are in a Nepal PAN number?
A Nepal Permanent Account Number is normally a 9-digit identifier. Spaces and hyphens are not part of the number.
Are PAN and VAT numbers different?
A VAT-registered taxpayer uses its PAN as the tax identifier. VAT registration is a status attached to the taxpayer; a 9-digit format alone cannot prove VAT registration.
Can Tools Pasal confirm a PAN is active?
No. Tools Pasal checks only the expected format. Use the official IRD PAN Search to confirm taxpayer name and registration information.
What should I check on a VAT bill?
Check the seller name, PAN/VAT number, invoice date and serial number, taxable amount, VAT amount and total. Verify the PAN against IRD when the bill matters for accounting or input-credit claims.
